God’s perfect Timing (peace) in the Good and Bad of Life

I have encountered heartache and pain in my life that has brought me to my knees. I have experienced situations that make me break down in tears and think, how could things possibly get any worse. In those moments, I have clung to the notion that everything is filtered through the Lord. It has been God allowed and He believes I am strong enough to get through it with Him at my side, even when I barely have the strength to take a step forward.

At the same time I have experienced opportunities and blessings that show me the difference between God’s timing and mine. In the moments when I have prayed and prayed and the Lord answers with a favorable response, I am in awe of His power. There have been moments in my life where I have seen the Lord knit events together so majestically, that the results can only be explained because of the Lord’s divine timing.

Recently, the Lord revealed to me that even the bad in life happens according to the Lord’s perfect timing. A death of a family member, a diagnosis of a disease, a severe illness, a job loss, they are all in God’s perfect timing. How could this be? There is never a perfect timing for loss or illness, especially when we believe the truth that God is good. Here is the answer, cut and dry. It isn’t the devastating event that is from the Lord, these events will happen regardless of where we are in our walk with the Lord, but He has foreseen them coming and is trying to prepare us for when they hit.

Because the Lord knows the future, He wants to set us up to handle the joys and pains of life as they come at us. When we seek Him daily and read scripture, He will begin a work in each of us that will guide us to be perfectly positioned to handle whatever comes our way. In this way, we can be confident that we can rely on Him to help us through the pain and hurt, just as He is there to help us navigate the excitement of dreams realized.

Often we miss these God ordained meetings and don’t see His hand in the disasters that threaten us because we become complacent in times of prosperity. We forget our need to seek the Lord daily and lean in to tune our hearing to what He has for us. His timing can be seen everywhere, from a casual interaction at the grocery store, to a deep outpouring of feelings over a chemo treatment with a complete stranger. These aren’t chance encounters, but God moments that we will miss if we aren’t seeking Him.

When we remember life is filtered through the Lord we understand the comfort of our God. When we begin to see that even the bad happens in God’s timing, we will then also understand a peace that the Lord reveals to us in scripture. It is in this place of peace that we also find reliance and a deeper comfort of a personal relationship with the Lord that gives a true understanding of just how much He loves us. He loves us enough to equip us and prepare us for everything we will encounter…if we let Him.

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
