The Curtain is Torn, Yet I Hide

Sin…my daily life is full of it.  Today I am guilty of eating more than I should, treating the scale as an idol, getting angry at well meaning people, using harsh language, gossiping, pride, comparison, and negative self talk.  The sad thing is as far as my sinful nature is concerned I would consider this a good day, BUT in the Lord’s eyes these sins are no better than adultery, murder, last, lying, etc.  Sin is sin and no matter what sins you or I are caught up in, the Lord says when we seek Him there is forgiveness.

How can this be?  It’s all because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.  This is one of the non-negotiable beliefs of a Christian.  We know He died in our place, He was perfection, God in human form, yet He took all the suffering and pain for us.  We know the story, but do we truly understand the symbolism.   When He took His last breath, the temple curtain was torn from top to bottom.  This was the Lord’s way of telling us we could forevermore approach Him directly.

No matter my sins, whether I view them as big or small, I get embarrassed having to ask for forgiveness.  I want to hide from the Lord.  I try to hide from the Lord.  Here’s what He showed me, there is no where to hide.  He lives within me.  When I accepted Him into my heart, I became His follower.  What has been joined can’t be unjoined.  Even when we think we are too far gone to receive His mercy, grace, love, discipline, and forgiveness, He is there, always waiting for us to simply turn back to Him.

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.”
Hebrews 10:19‭-‬22 NLT
