Living in Fear, Living for Me

I have felt left out.

I have been rejected.

I have had my trust betrayed.

I have been hurt.

I have been afraid of being rejected.

I have made life about me.

Every single statement I just made is true and each of those statements makes me fearful of reaching out in relationships to others.. unless I change my perspective and place my trust in God.

People are just as flawed as me.  People are going to disappoint me, hurt me, reject me, and leave me out.  BUT if I stop putting my reliance in people and rely on the Lord, then I won’t take it personally.

Relying on God means we look to Him to fill us first.  We allow Him to pour love, strength and provision into our lives, so that we may pour into others without expectation.  We will feel more fulfilled and enjoy our relationships more.

Part of growing healthy friendships and relationships is releasing our loved ones of the burden of sustaining us and taking care of us.  When we walk side by side with others we learn to have faith in the Lord and trust Him.  We trust His filter for any hurts that come our way and we trust His provision and guidance to nourish instead of drain those we cherish most.

I will admit I’m a work in progress and it takes dedicated time with the Lord to make sure I’m keeping my reliance on Him and not others.  In this way my life is fuller because my relationships are no longer about me.

“This is what the Lord says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord . They are like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future. They will live in the barren wilderness, in an uninhabited salty land. “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:5‭-‬8 NLT
